In today's day and age, everybody wants to look good, and they want instant results. If they are looking to shed a few pounds, they want it now. If they want a tan, they want it now. People looking to get their teeth whitened are no exception. They want instant results. Laser teeth whitening is a way to get bright white teeth instantly, without a lot of pain and hassle.

What is Laser Teeth Whitening?

Laser teeth whitening systems are a way for people to instantly get the smile they want without having to wait days or weeks using the "at home kits". Some people are put off by the "laser" in teeth whitening, so they opt for the home kits. However, laser teeth whitening is completely safe and harmless.

For starters the dentist or dental assistant will clean your teeth, removing all debris and plaque that could hamper the laser whitening process. Depending on the brand, the specialist will then apply a paste or a gel to your teeth. The laser is then beamed over your teeth, activating important bleaching chemicals in the gel. The only purpose of the laser is to accelerate the bleaching process by activating these chemicals, which is usually a concentrated form of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide.

The entire process takes about an hour, and your teeth should look about 10 shades whiter once complete. Some patients who have severe staining due to medications or smoking opt to proceed with more treatments. This is completely normal, and should not deter you from getting the laser treatment done.

How Much Will This Cost Me?

As with any new technology, you're going to pay a premium. Don't be surprised when you get a bill ranging from $500-$1000, and even more if multiple treatments are required. You also have the option of buying the cheap home teeth whitening kits from a grocery store for a few bucks. More sophisticated molds and gels are available for about $100. However, the bleach used in these OTC (over-the-counter) products is less effective and you’re not going to see the results you would from a proper laser treatment. Fortunately many dentists offer payment plans or financing. Some even have a first customer discount that can save you a lot of money.

Bottom line, if you have the money you really should opt for the laser treatment. The results are instant and they work. You save yourself the headache and time required for cheaper home kits, and in the end you'll be glad you did it.
